    Tech Myths

    www.lockergnome.com – As the Internet has permeated almost every aspect of modern western civilization, it’s easy to call our current era the Age of Information. On the other side of the coin, it could also be called the Age of Misinformation. Just as it’s been said that you shouldn’t believe everything you read, it’s a good idea to cast a wary eye on every scrap of data that’s fed to you — no matter its origin. Even sources that mean well sometimes pass along what past presidential administrations have euphemistically called “bad intelligence.” (Think of how many emails you’ve been forwarded that perpetuate Internet hoaxes dispelled by Snopes years ago, yet they keep showing up again and again.) Here are seven myths of technology that have been exposed. You can watch the entire live TLDR episode here: youtu.be www.lockergnome.com profiles.google.com twitter.com www.facebook.com

    • Think about it, if there was a combination on our smartphones, it’s highly likely that someone would choose said combination as their lockscreen password. Thus rendering the whole point stupid.

    • Lithium ion batteries are best stored with about 40% charge. Not a myth, it’s a fact.

    • To fully charge your phone before you use it.
      Lithium batteries come with power in the box, because it’s bad for it to be fully discharged.
      So you don’t need to plug it in first.

    • What’s this about unlocking or locking smartphone batteries? Lost me on that one. Also, I once ordered 3 brand new HDMI cables from Ebay for like $10 total. But they were so cheap, they wouldn’t work at 1080p, but would work at 720p….so there is a difference. When I got my active 3d TV, I went with an expensive cable because it’s pushing twice the data…basically it’s 2 sets of 1080p images, one for each eye at 60 Hz ea for 120 Hz total.

      @MrcabooseVG XD good one!

    • @JaredSPeters i was about to faceplalm but i saw xD ;)

    • What, are there cheaper HDMI cables? xD

    • FabulousLakeTahoe

      Having gold HDMI cables is totally pointless because the signal is error-corrected digital and only in very extreme cases will you EVER lose a bit no matter what cable you use.

      I hate macs… but I hate macs. I don’t have a fucking mitten for a hand.

    • hdmi cables are 2 bucks at amazon

    • @MrcabooseVG Unless you are saying that’s a Myth, which is completely correct lol.

    • @MrcabooseVG Yes, because buying a PC for half the price and putting an Antivirus on it is a terrible deal.
