  • The 5 Most Important Requirements for Successful Staff Tech Training

Posted on January 11th, 2012 Tech Nerd No comments

    (PRWEB) January 11, 2012

Researched by Jeff Welles, Vice President of InvoTech Systems

Competent, experienced trainers are the secret ingredient to ensuring a customers success when rolling out a new technology. InvoTech Systems, Inc. recently surveyed a group of clients that installed its GIMS RFID Uniform and Linen tracking systems to learn about their training needs. Our goal was to help each propertys diverse staff master high-tech inventory software and equipment even though they are not familiar with computerized systems. Twenty years of developing and implementing automated laundry solutions and RFID tracking systems has taught us that good user training is essential to an efficient operation.

Here are what hoteliers say are the five most important factors for effective technology training.

    1. The ability to instill confidence in new technology users. Many of our back-of-the-house employees do not own computers or have Internet experience. I want a trainer with solid teaching experience who can give my staff confidence with new technology. InvoTechs team has a comprehensive training background and was able to quickly teach our staff to use the system. Insist your vendors trainers are good teachers, not just technology people.

    -Vanessa Barbarin, Purchasing Manager

    2. The operational know-how to adapt technology to the hotels processes. The Broadmoor Hotels operation is unique. We recommend asking your training supervisor to review and understand your operation before training starts. I look for a trainers willingness to learn our processes to ensure that the system is implemented to provide the maximum benefits to our specific operation. A training team leader must have enough experience to adapt their system to our processes.

    -Renee Broyles, Director of Housekeeping

    Wilma Thompson, Uniforms Manager

    3. The insight to communicate how a system will make life easier for your staff. I knew InvoTechs technology would make the job of tracking and inventorying our uniforms easier for my staff and me. But when the trainer explained to my team how the GIMS system would benefit them, it created a sense of excitement around the installation and training process. My team was very enthusiastic and loves the system. It is essential to have trainers start by conveying to your staff how the new system will benefit them.

    4. Trainers who are professional at all times and lead property supervisors by example. Professionalism and respect for the teacher is the foundation of any good training program. Installers and trainers must be sharp and professional or they will not be credible to the people they are teaching. Training managers who are expert in their field and show commitment to professionalism can lead our supervisors by example. This is important because it shows my supervisors how to train new hires.

-Kathryn Ling Kuo Ying, Wardrobe Manager

    Resorts World, Sentosa, Singapore

    5. Previous hotel experience is essential. I require that the training team have hotel experience. My associates are not computer people. It is essential that trainers understand how we do our jobs and can teach real-world hotel people. InvoTechs technician did a fantastic job during the initial installation. She spent a week with our associates in the uniform room making sure they understood the system and helping them with their processes. Thanks to her experience, by the time she left all our users felt comfortable enough to use the system by themselves.

This is the first part of a planned 16-bit computer that will run entirely in minecraft. That computer will be “Hack” compatible, which is to say that it’ll run code meant for the Hack machine described in The Elements of Computing Systems (a fantastic book that you should look up if you are at all interested in how computers work. Its website is www.idc.ac.il ). Some more info: The design was drawn up in a program called Redstone Simulator (does what it says on the tin), which was written by Baezon on the Minecraft Forums www.minecraftforum.net MCEdit ( minecraftforums.net ) was used to help clear off space and import the design into minecraft. Hours of experimenting with prototypes, modifications to the design, and debugging took place in the game itself, however. This project is far from over. Memory, here I come…

  • ASA and PrecisionAg Institute to Study ROI

Posted on January 11th, 2012 Tech Nerd No comments

Willoughby, Ohio (PRWEB) January 11, 2012

The American Soybean Association (ASA) and the PrecisionAg Institute are teaming to conduct a study of return on investment (ROI) gained with precision agriculture technology by Americas soybean growers. The groups hope to uncover the unique benefits of computers, GPS, variable-rate controllers and field-mapping software in soybean production.

For many, this technology seems to be key to efficiency and profitability in todays crop production systems, explains Steve Wellman, President of ASA and soybean producer from Syracuse, Neb. By teaming with the PrecisionAg Institute on this research, we hope to provide our members with additional guidance in their adoption of new technology.

Wellman explains that farmers are always looking for better ways to make the most of all their inputs, whether nutrients, seed or diesel fuel. By learning more and sharing research results, he says, ASA grower-members may be able to see more clearly what precision ag tools are likely to offer in improving their overall farm management.

Precision agriculture use, by its nature, must be field-specific if its to be worthwhile, says K. Elliott Nowels, director of the PrecisionAg Institute. That means each farmer will experience different benefits from its use. Its our intent to narrow in on key benefits common to the precision experience in soybean production.

This skilled management of inputs and yield enabled by the use of precision ag technology, says Nowels, is providing farmers a positive message about conservation and stewardship.

Research shows that when growers put precision technology to use, they are able to optimize their use of land, water, seed and nutrients. That kind of stewardship benefits everyone, he says. The support of our partners will help us reach more growers with that message and also help us tell the story of agricultures resource conservation to the wider public.

The PrecisionAg Institute advances precision agriculture technology and its efficiency, stewardship and profitability on farms around the world through advocacy, education and research. PrecisionAg Institute activities include research projects, an online reference library, PrecisionAg e-news, the PrecisionAg Learning Center and PrecisionAg Awards for Excellence. More information on the PrecisionAg Institute can be found at http://www.precisionagworks.com.

The American Soybean Association represents all U.S. soybean farmers on domestic and international issues of importance to the soybean industry. ASAs advocacy efforts are made possible through the voluntary membership in ASA by over 21,000 farmers in 31 states where soybeans are grown.
